What your home really says about you and what the buyers really feel
By Ginger Boyd, CSC
It may not just be the price, or the excessive amount of homes on the market. It may not be the Realtor’s fault at all. Your home may not be selling for other reasons. These are the things your Realtor may not share with you, and these are the things they may not even know.
As a Soul Coach, a clutter clearing consultant, and a former Realtor of 7 years, let me share with you what worked for me in getting my clients homes sold in downtimes such as these. Selling is still a very real possibility in this market. In fact, homes are still selling everyday.
Keeping a positive mind set, and believing it will sell is half of the battle. Only from this positive, affirmative state of mind can you take action that will bring you the results you desire. Most people have now seen The Secret. If not, I suggest you watch it. The Law of Attraction is in effect in all matters, even the sell of your home. KNOW it will sell. Feel what it feels like to have that burden lifted off of you so you can move forward in life, and begin to see yourself as already in the future in your new home. Get in the right frame of mind. If you are a faithful person, hold onto your faith, and trust in your higher power. The greater good is operating in all of our affairs.
Secondly, understand that every environment has a distinct feeling. How do you feel when you walk into a room after someone has just argued? It just doesn’t feel good. In my experience, homes that are in the middle of a divorce or death need extra special attention to sell because they don’t feel good when you walk inside. They have often been neglected due to emotional turmoil. Usually, the feeling there is heavy. There is usually a deep sorrow that needs to be cleared. You can do this yourself, or you can hire someone who is skilled at clearing the energy of the home environment.
Smudging is the practice of cleansing away negative energy with smoke from various herbs or resins. This Native American tradition is becoming more commonplace as others discover the benefits of this ancient ceremony.
How to smudge with sage sticks.
1. Light the end of the smudge stick
2. Place in heatproof container (If it doesn't go out, gently blow the flames out. It should still smolder. You can relight it if it goes completely out).
3. Fan smoke with hand or feather over the area, person or object to be cleansed.
4. If you are cleansing a room, move in a counter clockwise direction to banish negativity.
Using sage bundles is a traditional way to cleanse away negative energy like emotional turmoil and stress. It can be used to clear energy out of a room or a whole home, or clear energy from a previous resident. Do this because it does work and its been working for centuries. You will feel the difference in a home after it has been saged. Potential buyers will feel it too. It feels lighter and happier, less heavy.
Next, your possessions hold secret messages about you. For example, the kitchen is the heart of the home. If it’s a total mess, and not free and clear, it sends a message to the subconscious mind of a prospective buyer, I won’t be happy here. So simply keeping the counters clear of junk and making it really clean, can go a long way here. Leave room for the buyer to use their imagination of bringing in their own things, their own heart.
Your living room and dining room are also very important rooms to consider. These are spaces where you spend a lot of time with friends and family and simply relating to yourself. Clutter can turn these rooms into places of solitude and desolation, especially if the clutter is so severe that it has been years since you've invited people over. Look around your living and dining rooms to see what they say about your relationship with the rest of the world. Would someone see themselves having people over for dinner and visiting here? If you don’t, why would they?
Finally, I always suggest letting the light and air flow easily throughout your home. Nature is very calming to the spirit and the more you allow in, the more peaceful and serene your home will feel to a prospective buyer.
If you have done all that you can as far as price, and open houses, advertising, and the hiring of a Realtor, and your home still isn’t sold, maybe it is time to go a little deeper. Remember, homes are STILL selling every day. Make yours the next to say SOLD!
